WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE – Vol. 12.5.18
Greetings May River Band Family!
We are very sorry that the weather did not cooperate last Saturday, and we thank everyone for their flexibility. We were looking forward to showcasing our blue Santa caps. Don’t worry. They will soon make their appearance!
Here’s what’s happening:
We have wrapped up individual recording sessions for the All-County Band auditions. I am proud to say that 51 musicians passed our barrier test and will advance to the All-County auditions! That is up from 39 last year. Way to go student musicians!
The All-County Honor Band clinic, should a member be selected, is Friday, January 18th at May River HS (all day), and Saturday, January 19th at May River, which will include a 2pm concert at May River HS. If your band member CANNOT participate in this clinic/concert, please notify Mr. Carbone immediately. Written acknowledgement will follow soon.
WINTER CONCERT – NEXT TUESDAY!
Next Tuesday, December 11th is the first concert of the year, our annual winter concert – “Winter Soundscapes”
The concert will feature a guest performance at 6:30pm by the Lowcountry Community Concert Band, presenting “Around the World in a Sleigh.” Immediately following the LCCB, the May River HS Band Department will feature the May River HS Winter Guard performing a routine to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas”, followed by the MRHS Combined Symphonic Band featuring all 58 high school band musicians. The program will feature Mannheim Steamroller transcriptions of favorite holiday classics including Carol of the Bells and Stille Nacht.
Since we have yet to acquire additional concert dresses, ladies are requested to dress as close to all black as possible. Only black and white permitted. Closed toe shoes please. Leggings as appropriate. Limit accessories to few and small. Holiday theme okay. Veterans – prefer concert dresses.
Gentlemen – black pants, white button down dress shirt. Black dress shoes (marching shoes okay for this concert), black dress socks, black dress jacket preferred, black bowtie preferred. Veteran gentlemen are expected to be in full concert black attire as they are accustomed.
We had fantastic rehearsal Tuesday. We look forward to showcasing our program next Tuesday and hope everyone can join us!
Students that have registered for the SCBDA All-Region auditions have been provided their audition time yesterday. Please review the times. This is a gentle reminder that the All-County auditions are fast approaching on January 12th at Summerville HS.
Our 2nd quarterly “State of the Band” parent meeting is next Tuesday, December 11th at the Winter Concert. The agenda is simply this – ENJOY THE CONCERT! Our third mandatory quarterly meeting will be in March.
Next Band Boosters meeting is Monday, December 17th. This meeting will begin at 6:30pm, will cover upcoming events, and will be immediately followed by our TRIP DEPARTURE meeting for the Florida Band Trip participants.
Happy Holidays everyone. We hope to celebrate the season with you at our concert next Tuesday evening at May River HS, starting at 6:30pm.
