Program Notes – vol. 2.26.18

Greetings Band Family!

I apologize for not blogging recently.  I trust that your child has been keeping you up to date with daily activities and the latest band acronyms and jargon, specifically CPA.  For those needing jargon help, CPA stands for Concert Performance Assessment. It is a state association sanctioned concert band assessment event.  Results are posted for historical reference, forever. 🙂 Our CPA is on Thursday, March 22nd at West Ashley HS in Charleston.  Now that things are heating up for CPA, I thought it prudent to update everyone.

Here is what’s happening:

All-Region Wrap-up

Congratulations again to our All-Region band members that had a fantastic clinic / concert this past weekend at Charleston Southern University!  All seven our attending students performed with the All-Region bands!  So, update the number of May River HS All-Region band members from 4 to 7!!!!  Up from only 1 last year, and that’s not counting our All-Stater! 🙂

Pre-CPA CONCERT TOMORROW NIGHT!!!!!! 6:30PM!!!!!!!!!!!

We are looking forward to performing for the parents and band fans tomorrow evening at our

Pre-CPA Concert, dubbed “ A Mid-Seasons Serenade.”  This concert looks to be our last opportunity to perform on the May River stage prior to CPA in 3 weeks.  The concert begins at 6:30pm, and admission is free.  The Lowcountry Concert Band will be performing at 7:30pm if you want to make an evening out it.  The band includes 8 May River HS Band members.

PRE-CPA – Next Tuesday, March 6th – Bluffton HS

Chaperones needed – 2 to 4

The Wind Symphony will participate in a Pre-CPA, mock contest next Tuesday, March 6th during the school day.  The band’s performance is at 11am at Bluffton HS in the auditorium.

The band needs 2 to 4 chaperones for the bus rides to and from the event in order to participate.  This the band’s opportunity to participate in a mock contest. There will be judges.  The band will go through the stage performance assessment, and then to a sight-reading performance which is also being judges.  It is important that the students treat this as an actual CPA event.

CPA – Thursday, March 22nd – West Ashley HS (Charleston)

Chaperones needed – 2 to 4

CPA is being held at West Ashley HS in the Charleston area March 20th – 22nd.  The May River HS Wind Symphony is scheduled to perform on Thursday, March 22nd after lunch.  More details to follow. The band needs 2 to 4 chaperones for the bus rides to and from the event in order to participate.  The band will be entering in class level 4 out of  6, up a couple of levels from last year.  The band will perform its concert program for 3 judges.  After the stage performance, the band will perform in sight-reading for 2 judges.  The best rating a band can be awarded is a rating of SUPERIOR or “1” out of 5, per judge.  If the composite ratings are below a certain number, the band would be awarded an overall rating of “1” or SUPERIOR.  The May River HS band is trying to improve upon its EXCELLENT rating last year.  The very best you can achieve is “STRAIGHT SUPERIORS”, or a composite of 5.

That’s it for now.  More details regarding Pre-CPA on March 6th and CPA on March 22nd will be forthcoming.

Hope to see you at our Pre-UIL Concert tomorrow night at 6:30pm!!!!!!
