I am proud to announce that May River High School has its first all-state band member in it’s short history! Sophomore clarinet player Caroline Walker auditioned for the South Carolina All-State band over this past weekend and placed 13th chair overall in the Clinic (9th/10th grade) All-State Band. She was selected from literally hundreds of clarinet players from schools across the entire state. Students participated in open region competition the week prior, which is regardless of school classification. 90 clarinets, the finest from 5 regions, earned call-backs after last week’s All-Region Auditions. Schools 1A-6A in addition to magnet schools such as Charleston School of the Arts, and the SC Governors School participated.
The All-State results establish the All-Region results. In region competition, the May River Band did extremely well placing four student musicians in the South Carolina Region IV All-Region Honor Band, up from placing just one a year ago. Region IV includes all SC schools from the Lowcountry up through the greater Charleston area, including band powerhouses Wando, Summerville, Ashley Ridge, and Charleston School of the Arts.
Three additional students were named alternates.
All-Region band members will participate in an honor band Clinic/Concert in late February with a nationally prominent conductor educator.
All-State band members will have their clinic/concert in March.
Join me in celebrating these students:
