Greetings Band Families!
Hope you have had a fantastic weekend, everyone! It was the first “band free” weekend for the last couple, so I hope you were able to have some quality family time. Before we all take that big “caesura” with school and it’s subsequent activities, and starting delving into the many traditions the season brings, I wanted to take pause and touch base on a few important items.
Firstly, thank you everyone for your participation in the 2nd Annual Pancake Breakfast with Santa fundraiser on Dec. 9th. I have heard several positive comments from persons outside of the band program regarding how well mannered and helpful our students were, and the perception of the band program and boosters association as hosting a well-organized event. We should learn at tonight’s band parent general meeting what kind of profit was made, as well as have an opportunity to discuss any improvements for next year!
We were THRILLED at the audience turnout last Tuesday, Dec. 12th at our Winter Band Concert. We hope that you enjoyed the results of our efforts over the past few weeks. We certainly enjoyed sharing the music with you. Thank you for the coming, and for your support! I would also like to pass on a sincere thank you from the Osher Lifelong Institute at the University of South Carolina Beaufort, and the members of the Lowcountry Community Concert Band for supporting their concert event as well that evening. A great time had by all!!!
I am happy to report that 39 students prepared an audition recording that met the specifications and our program’s standard to be forwarded for consideration for participation in the All-County Honor Band. Last year, the May River Band had 6 participants. These recordings will be adjudicated by the band educators in the county, and results should be known later this month.
It may not be as warm as a holiday stocking, but the band boosters would love to find their “black-box” stuffed here in the next two days with any remittances for outstanding fees associated with marching shoes and gloves. There are still a few grinches out there… no coal please.
What’s the next big thing? Well, the next big event that effects a large percentage of our band students are the All-Region auditions on Saturday, January 20th. Those students are (and they know who they are):
There will be no school provided transportation to these auditions. This is due to the time span of the auditions, and the requirements placed on the director to judge a portion of the auditions. Auditions will be held at Summerville HS in the Charleston area.
The next big thing with the band boosters is the upcoming Craft Sale on Saturday, Feb. 24th.
More regarding the Craft Fair and other upcoming fundraising events will be discussed at tonight’s Band Parent General Meeting in the band room. Meeting is slated to start no later than 7:30pm. Doors will be open by 7pm.
Hope to see everyone tonight.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!!!
