EMAIL to Band Parents and Students (7/18)

Here is a copy of an email was sent out to all band students/parents.  The email addresses used were the addresses on file with the school’s data clerk.  If you did not receive this email, please email Mr. Carbone at so that your email address can be added to the contact list.

You are receiving this email since your child has registered for a band class(es) for this upcoming fall.  I wanted to reach out to you and welcome you to the 2017 May River Band!  I am excited at the opportunity to meet and work with you in effort to make the May River Band a success this year!
You will find below a link to a letter that has been disseminated to students and families via the principal.  Hopefully, you have already seen it.  It is also my hope that you have had a chance to visit the band website –  We also have a Twitter feed – @MayRiverBands or www.twitter/mayriverbands.  We have a facebook page which can be located by searching May River Band Department.
We are “hitting the field running” with our upcoming events:
Leadership / Rookie Camp – Thursday, July 20th, 8a-12 for leadership, 1:30-4p for leadership and rookies. Any students new to the band program are required to attend the rookie portion.
Band Camp – Band Camp begins next week on Monday, July 24th at 8am.  All Band Camp dates and times can be found on the band calendar which is located on the band website.
It is my understanding that students in the band are not required to participate in the marching band according to District policy.  It is my sincere hope that your child has made the decision to participate!  In my experience, it is participation in the marching band that really brings the band program together, where students learn the most important life lessons, lessons that cannot be learned by simply participating in a band class.  Lifelong friendships are fostered, and the team approach to putting on an exciting halftime production instills a sense of pride and ownership that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
It is not too late!  If you are you are interested in having your child participate in marching band it is not too late to register.  Please fill out this short Registration Form.  Students would need to participate in Rookie Camp this week and Band Camp the following weeks.  If you have a conflict in schedule, please email me and we will work it out.  I would rather work around a conflict than have your students miss out.
Color Guard – If your chid, or someone they know would be interested in joining the Color Guard (flags, rifles, etc) we need them!  The Color Guard is a vital part of any marching band.  We are actively recruiting for the guard, and will allow instrumentalists to participate in the Color Guard during marching band season in lieu of marching their instruments (they would still play in class and in the concert band ensembles).  For more information, please email me directly.
2nd Chance Band – If your child knows of student that discontinued their participation in band in recent years, we are inviting them back!  This is their 2nd chance.  Please have your child reach out to these students and encourage them to contact me.
Band Parent Meeting – On Monday, July 24th at 7pm in the May River Band Hall I will be holding a “town hall” band parent meeting.  I will be sharing some very important information at this meeting. Parents are encouraged to attend, and ask any questions they may have.
We are very excited about our growing band program.  So far, we have over 30 freshmen registered alone.  That is more than the other 3 classes combined.  This is exciting in considering the possibility of growth over the next few years.  Your child will be an important part of establishing the traditions that will lay the foundation for the band for years to come!
I look forward to meeting you very soon!
